Just find what you love to do and... do it
~Dawson's Creek~

After last years Creapy Crawley party, I started to think what could the theme be for this year. As our 2 little ones birthday's are quite close, we are still lucky to have a combined birthday party. It wasn’t until end of last year that the dress-up Pirate and Fairy theme-idea was born. I love every minute of planning the party and had a lot of time to prepare in advance. Although this week, the house chores and normal routine did go a bit out of the window.

There was quite a bit of planning going into it all, but the timeline/to-do-list worked perfectly.
I started about a month ago, sending out the invitations, making the eye patches for each little pirate and fairy wands for each little fairy. It was so much fun. Worked on everything in the little time that was spare / available throughout the month.

Cones for the popcorn, labels for the thank-you biscuits, pirate treasure map, colouring sheets, cupcake etc.

Last week I started with the sugarpaste decorations and the ideas just grow and grow. Haven’t done big decorated iced cakes before. Cupcakes yes, as they are not as daunting. I really did not know in the beginning what I will be doing for the little man’s cupcakes. Thought I'll just put a coin chocolate on the chocolate cupcakes, but then I had the idea of some pirate buttons.

Little man came home from preschool every day last week, wanting to see what i've been doing and what has been finished for his party. He was over excited and could hardly wait for the actual day to come.

So last week was basically a planned week of making and baking.

Monday – baking of thank-you biscuits and decorating the sugarpaste pirates
Tuesday – sugarpaste fairy decorations for cupcakes
Wednesday – iced the thank-you biscuits
Thursday – Baking of cupcakes and cakes (in between gimnastics lessons and pre-school)
Friday – more baking, pirate treasure map, thank-you biscuits in give away bag,

(husband sent to shop with the shopping list)!

Saturday – decorating the cakes, making the coloured popcorn, some rocky roads and brownies for the adults, checking the check-list and packing everything for the big day yesterday,
Sunday – decorating the cupcakes, making the sandwiches and off we went....

Loved the way it all worked out.

The whole time I did have a bit of butterflies about the whole rolled icing business, as I have never attempted to do it. But I think it came out beautifully, especially as this was my first time.

I started with the little pirate chocolate cake and coated it first with the ready rolled white icing and it was not too bad. Had to improvise a bit in making a turn table with a Lazy Susan and a bowl, but it worked pretty well. Then the coloured green coating was to be kneaded and rolled and my first attempt failed as it was just a bit dry and cracked almost immediately. But second time round it was fine. The finishing touches was done ...

and ....

the result!!!

We had lots of playing, facepainting, jumping on the jumping castle, playing a few games and eating!

and now it's all over until next year …. a lot of time to start thinking, planning for the next theme.
